Estrogen Replacement Therapy And Osteoporosis: Is The Public Receiving Conflicting Information This paper discusses estrogen replacement therapy and Osteoporosis. With the aging population growing at a swift rate and female baby boomers entering or experiencing menopause in growing numbers, osteoporosis has gained increasing attention. It is estimated that 25-30% of U.S. Caucasian women will suffer a fracture related to osteoporosis, and that 85% of the overall female population will develop osteoporosis (Graham & Gleit, 1984). Estrogen replacement therapy (ERT) has been widely used and discussed as a method for treating osteoporosis. In this paper, the implications of ERT in osteoporosis will be examined through contrast and comparison of D. Franklin's magazine article, "Boning Up", and various medical journal articles.
